UNR PROFESSOR GAILMARIE PAHMEIER NAMED NEVADA POET LAUREATE

Gailmarie Pahmeier, the widely published author 和 professor at the University of Nevada, 里诺, has been named Nevada Poet Laureate. 政府. A 2016 inductee in the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame, Pahmeier has published three full-length works of poetry, The Rural Lives of Nice Girls, The House on Breakaheart Road, 和 Of Bone, Of Ash, Of Ordinary Saints: A Nevada Gospel, as well as three chapbooks — short collections of poems with a unifying theme. Pahmeier teaches creative writing 和 contemporary literature at UNR, where she received the University Distinguished Teacher Award in 1995 和 the Alan Bible Teaching Excellence Award in 1994, 其他的区别. Overview of Poet Laureate Appointment

The Nevada State Poet Laureate is a 政府ernor appointed position. In-Person Appearances/Expected Travel

A minimum of two in-person or online 阅读 targeting a variety of cultural communities 和 geographic areas of the state per quarter, including 政府ernor’s inauguration, 内华达艺术委员会 Conference, 政府ernor’s Global Tourism Summit, Nevada State Poetry Out Loud Finals, 和 other events to be determined. Laureates are encouraged to gather requests for participation in events 和 consider them in cooperation with 内华达艺术委员会 on a bi-monthly or quarterly basis when setting their schedule.

The Nevada Poet Laureate will be expected to undertake a significant cultural project during his or her term, such as bringing poetry to people or to a region of the state that might otherwise be underserved in this regard.
